Capabilities

Certifications

In its efforts to enhance its value to its customers, Area Erectors is constantly looking for ways to ensure its workers and meet and surpass industry standards. Membership and certification by organizations that guide the industry in defining the standards are very valuable ways of ensuring that Area maintains its growth and industry-leading status.

In 2001, Area became an Advanced Certified Steel Erector (ACSE) as evaluated and certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). This certification is given only to those companies that can adhere to strict standards and practices set forth by the AISC. Inspection and evaluation is done both internally and by the AISC to make sure that practices and quality are kept as high as possible. To learn more, view the AISC certification requirements.

Safety

Area Erectors strives to lead the industry in safety. It has long been Area's policy to make sure that all its employees follow strict safety procedures and utilize protective equipment.

For starters, Area requires all of its foreman and regular employees to be certified in first-aid, CPR/AED and 10-hour OSHA training. While the employees that Area may get out of a union hall are not all currently required to be certified as extensively, Area has been working with the Union to have certification be a very favorable option for those working out of the hall. These steps have paved the way for most Union Locals to implement policies that require all current and upcoming apprentices to be trained and current in these skills before working out of the hall.

Area employs a staff of safety personnel to specifically take care of inspecting jobsites, maintain safety equipment, certify its employees, supply personal protective equipment, and fulfill all OSHA requirements for paperwork. The majority of Area's safety personnel are certified Outreach Instructors for 10-hour OSHA classes.

Jobsites are visited randomly to ensure that all equipment is being utilized in the correct manner. These jobsite visits occur about every other week if not more frequently.

Subpart R by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration went into effect on January 18, 2002. For more information about Area Erectors' safety policies regarding Subpart R click directly to OSHA link on the right above.

Area's Corporate Safety Director is available to answer any questions that may be a concern. He can be reached through the divisions or simply e-mail him here.
